You can grow zucchini up a trellis or in a cage but each vine can grow 25' long and there are usually several vines per plant. One plant will probably supply more squash than you can possibly eat! There are some smaller varieties or you might want to try crookneck or patty pan summer squashes instead. These plants are smaller and the fruit is not as heavy so it won't pull the vines down. Instead of cages, why not use a trellis or some strings or wires mounted on a frame so you can train the vines up and over the structure? Best wishes with your project!
