The Q&A Archives: dying sod

Question: i got sod about two months ago and looks great but patches have turned brown and died. could this be due to overwatering?

Answer: It could be due to overwatering or it might be that the roots of the sod did not make good contact with the soil and did not grow into the soil. See if you can pull up on the brown areas. If you can, it means the roots remained above the soil. If you cannot, then the roots did penetrate into the soil and the browning is due to something else - either overly wet or overly dry areas. Hope you can figure it out so you can make adjustments to your watering!
