| We have a rose bush in our front yard that we purchased approx. 5 years ago. Originally it was coral in color, but over the years it has become predominately red, with only two small sections still producing the original color. Is this normal? Any way to correct? |
| Hybrid roses are grafted onto vigorous root stock. The coral colored flowers are from the grafted rose; the red roses are from stems growing from the rootstock. If you trace the stems down you'll see they are coming from below the bud union, which is a swelling on the main stem. I'd prune off any stems coming from the rootstock. They are more vigorous than your grafted rose and will overtake the shrub if you allow them to remain. Best wishes with your rose! |
