This is the first time I have ever planted a garden. I need to know how to tell when my carrots should be harvested.

I live in northeast Ohio around the cleveland area.

Carrot tops are no indication of the size of the carrots so don't be fooled into thinking because the tops are large that the underground roots will be too. The best way to check for size is to gently brush the dirt away and expose the shoulders of the carrots. The larger the shoulders, the longer the carrrots will be. You may even have to harvest a few in late summer to check the sizes. In the meantime, water as usual and enjoy your garden.
