| You are right, Magnolia trees resent being moved around. Your best chances are with small trees or seedlings. The larger they get, the more difficult it is to get a large part of the root system when you dig them. For best results, dig and transplant the tree in November to allow it a lot of time to settle in to its new location and begin establishing roots before the hot summer weather arrives. Water the tree in well at planting to settle the soil in around the roots. During the first growing season following transplanting keep the soil around the tree moist but not soggy. Mulch the soil surface for a few feet out from the trunk to protect the soil and discourage growth of weeds. Good luck with your magnolia tree. |
