Plants generally take a year to settle in, become rooted and begin to grow so you may want to consider buying fairly large sized plants. If you simply want a fast growing evergreen you might try Leyland cypress. If you want a deciduous plant, forsythia and privet grow very fast and can reach a large size in just a few years.
