I have always planted Blackeye peas. The other day a local farmer was about to plow up his fields and offered us the rest of the pickings of Zipper Peas. I don't seen to find them anywhere, is there another name for them, and does Burpee carry them?

Zipper cream is another name for them. Zipper peas are a type of southern pea. Other "cousins" include blackeye, purple hull, and crowder peas.

Burpee doesn't carry Zipper peas although they do sell blackeyes. Two mail order sources of many southern peas are: Wilhite Seed Co.; P.O. Box 23; Poolville, TX 76487; 800-828-1840, and South Carolina Foundation Seed Association; 1162 Cherry Rd.; Box 349952; Clemson University; Clemson SC; 864-656-2520.
