| Now that your cuttings have roots you'll want to pot them up in containers so the roots can adjust to growing in soil rather than simply in water. Use potting soil as a growing media. It holds lots of moisture yet drains quickly. Place your cuttings in a container filled with moistened potting soil, setting so the roots are about one inch below the surface of the soil. Water well after planting to help settle the soil. Then take the container outdoors and place it in a shaded area. Allow the plants to grow in the containers and build up their root systems for most of the summer. In September or October you can plant them outdoors in full sunshine. To protect them from winter weather mulch over the soil with several inches of compost, straw or even pine boughs. By next spring they should show lots of new growth. Best wishes with your plants! |
