| It sounds like a fungal disease but fungicide are generally preventative measures - they don't actually fix the problem, just protect newly emerging leaves from the fungal spores. So, to keep your hawthorne healthy and happy, prune off the diseased plant parts and rake up any fallen leaves. Spray with a fungicide such as Soap Shield. At the end of the growing season rake up fallen leaves again to remove them from the garden. Early next spring spray with a fungicide just as the leaf buds are starting to expand. You may have to repeat the spray as the leaves unfurl (check the fungicide label for exact directions). Early applications of fungicide should protect next year's growth and your hawthornes should remain disease free all growing season. Water them deeply once a week (twice if the weather is hot and your soil drains quickly) and feed in the spring with a 10-10-10 general purpose fertilizer (in amounts as recommended on the label).
