The Q&A Archives: insect infestation

Question: i have little black dots along the leaves of my salvia sunny border blue and basil - and the leaves are all curled up - do you know what this is?

Answer: The black dots may be insect pests or a sign of a fungal disease. See if you can wash them off with a stream of water from the hose. If not, the dots are probably a fungal disease. I'd pinch off the affected leaves to remove the spores and keep them from splashing onto the healthy leaves. You can even cut the plants back by almost one half if that will help remove the affected foliage. Healthy new growth should follow. Best wishes with your plants!
