The Q&A Archives: colocasias elephant ears

Question: bugs are eating my elephant ears as they are spouting up. what can i do to protect them. my sister suggest using lemon dish washing detergent with water . can you please help.Thank you

Answer: The treatment really depends on the bugs but I would recommend against using dish washing detergent. It can harm your plant by burning the leaves. Try hosing the pests off with a strong stream of water from the hose. If they return, collect a few and take them to your cooperative extension office or well staffed nursery for help with identification. Helpful folks there can tell you what they are and the safest way to control them. Good luck with your plant!
