| i have a large squash plant. I just picked a good, healthy squash from it. yet there are small. shriveled squash on the vine. these will rot. why? |
| Usually when baby squashes die it is due to incomplete pollination. Squash plants have separate male and female flowers and pollen needs to be transferred from the male to the female. The female flower has a slight swelling behind the petals (a future squash) and as the petals fall off the squash will begin to develop. If the flower was pollinated it will continue to grow and develop into a squash. If the flower was not pollinated the plant will abort the development and shed the baby squash. Just pick them up and toss them in the trash. Your plant will produce lots and lots of mature squash as the season progresses. Enjoy! |
