I would appreciate a suggestion about protecting my Bald Cypress seedlings from heavy snow fall this winter. These seedling are some distance away from the water source,.. so I've been working hard making sure the trees stay wet. Also I have been forced to protect the trees with a 3' circle of chicken wire fencing, 3' high because some animal has been chewing the small trunk and eating the green l

Since you already have chicken wire cylinders around the trees you can use them to help protect your trees this winter. Simply fill the cylinders with fallen leaves or straw and the trees will be safe and warm during the winter months. Don't completely cover the seedlings, but do work the insulation around the sides of the cylinders to block the wind which can cause dessication. Leave the top open. When snow falls it will add some more insulation and your little trees should be fine.
