when the instructions say that the soil needs to have good drainage ,how can I accomplish this

Well draining soils sometimes happen naturally - if your soil is mostly sand, for instance - but usually you need to amend the garden soil with compost or other organic matter to help it drain well. I don't know what kind of soil you have but just to be on the safe side, spread 3-4 inches of compost, peat moss, aged manure or other organic matter over the bed and dig it in to a depth of about 8 inches. Then plant your plants. The soil will be enriched and will drain well. Enjoy your garden!
