The Q&A Archives: What should I use?

Question: My yard can stay wet very long after it rains what can I do? do not want to fill in low spots in my lawn is there any other thing that I can do like maybe planting shrubs near the area?

Answer: Shrubs won't really drink up excess water, and not all shrubs will be happy in wet soils, so that isn't a solution to the problem. You might consider installing a curtain drain (sometimes called a French drain). It is basically a trench you fill with gravel to give the water someplace to collect until it percolates down into the soil. You can top it off with coarse sand and then overseed or install sod and you will barely know it is there.
