It can be a real chore to keep an asparagus patch weed-free. My method is to pull up as many weeds as possible early in the season. Then, in late spring I apply 2-4" layer of compost over the entire bed. I then lay several layers of newspapers in the rows, and mulch over them with straw or bark mulch to smother the weeds. I still have to wee between the plants, but it keeps the chore manageable. Good luck!
