Is it ok to use a soap and water solution on vegetable gardens as a pest control and to get rid of sooty mold from alphids?

Commercially prepared insecticidal soap solutions (such as Safer's) work well against aphids. You can make your own solution but be sure to use soap (such as Ivory), not detergent, which could harm your plants. Once you get rid of the insect pests the sooty mold will weather away all on its own.
