| It is June 1, and I just purchased and subsequently planted a 'Roma' tomato plant in a west facing garden area along with some herbs. It is my first attempt and I would like to have some general advice on planting and caring for Romas here in the hot desert. |
| Keep your plant well watered to maintain even moisture. You may find that early blooms do not set well, but hang in there and a few weeks later they should start setting. Fertilize your herbs and tomatoes with a liquid plant food like Miracle Grow at the weekly rate to keep them vigorous and productive. Watch for early signs of insect or disease damage. Most problems are easier to control when you catch them early. Your tomatoes may be staked or grown in a cage for support. Most garden centers sell cages for tomatoes. Good luck with your garden! |
