I have a couple of rubber tree plants. indoors. They seem to be really growing well in my southern exposed windows. I replanted one already, and it seems to need it again. Will I screw it up by doing this too often? How do I know when to repot? Thanks! |
Rubber trees don't mind being slightly rootbound. You'll know it needs to be repotted when the roots try to escape from the drainage holes in the bottom of the pot. It's usually best to move a plant up to just the next sized pot, even if it means having to repot every year. You always take a chance when you repot a plant. If it gets roughed up it can lose some of its leaves. I usually get the next sized pot, fill it loosely with moistened potting soil and then set the old pot into the new one to make an indentation in the potting soil. Then I unpot the plant and set the rootmass into the already made hole in the potting soil. Once it is set at the right depth I fill in around the sides and then water it well. The soil will settle a little but the plant will barely know it has been repotted. Best wishes with your rubber tree! |
