The Q&A Archives: Mulch

Question: I have planted bulbs and I want to put down mulch to keep the weeds down. Should I wait until all of the bulbs have at least broken the surface or will they pop through the mulch when ready.
Thank you for all your help.

Answer: I'm assuming you planted summer bulbs. If so, they should be poking their heads up very soon. Bulbs will usually work their ways up through a few inches of mulch, but if you are concerned you can simply brush most of the mulch away from over the soil where your bulbs are planted and then move it back over the soil once they have popped up. Enjoy your garden!
