In a few of your answers to questions about asparagus, you mention volunteer plants. What are they?

Good question! Volunteer plants (of any kind) are just self-sown seedlings that come up all on their own. With asparagus, most gardeners remove the volunteers for a variety of reasons including that they tend to come up in inconvenient spots.
