| Hello, I recently planted a will flemming holly purchased at home depot. It gets full sun as soon as i transplanted from the original pot it came in to the ground, within 2 days the leaves turned from green to yellow to brown. the branches are brittle and breaking. I have watered daily and am concerned that I will lose all 6 plants. |
| Yaupon Holly (Fleming Holly) grows in full sun in the Phoenix area and should grow well for you but it takes a little time to become established. Newly planted landscape trees and shrubs, especially those planted during the heat of spring and summer, can go through some transplant shock. Usually they rebound once the roots are firmly established and regular, deep watering will help speed the process. Yellowing and browning leaves are symptoms of transplant shock but those lost leaves are generally replaced in a few short weeks. Fall and winter are the best times to plant in your region - that's when temperatures are lower and the sunshine isn't quite so intense. Your plants will probably establish and recover, but you may not see any improvement until the weather cools. Continue to water deeply, applying about a half inch of water each time you water (run your drip system for 30 minutes if you are using 1-gallon emitters).
