| I have a garden that is fenced however something has tunneled under the fencing and is eating the leaves of the green bean & pea plants. I am not sure if it is a gopher or rabbit or weasel. Can you suggest a way to handle this problem? I also have a dog and try not to use poisons. |
| I don't think it is a gopher (they feed on grubs and roots, not on leaves) so you are probably dealing with a rabbit or weasel. To be effective, a wire fence should be buried at least 6" down into the soil and at least 24" above ground level. Since your fence is already in place you might try simply laying an 8-10" wide strip of chicken wire over the soil right next to the fence. Bunnies won't approach the fence if they have to walk on chicken wire (they will be afraid they will get their legs stuck) and even if they do walk the perimeter, they won't be able to dig through the wire. Be sure to anchor it down as you install it. Good luck with your garden. |
