| Hi, This is my second year trying to plant gazanias. I can't get the seeds to germinate. Like all my plants, I start the seeds inside in a tray of water. When the seeds sprout,I give them time to show a good amount of green, then I transfer them to outside pots. So far, all my chosen flowers have made it. Except Gazanias and they are one of my favorites. Help? |
| Gazanias can sometimes be difficult to grow from seed. They take 15-20 days to germinate when kept at 71-76?. Cover the seed with a medium layer of coarse-grade verminculite. Once they sprout they need temperatures of 65 to 70?F until they develop two sets of true leaves. Maintain a medium level of moisture; do not allow seedling to wilt, but avoid excessive moisture to prevent any possibility of damping off. After they have developed two sets of true leaves, they prefer nighttime temperatures of 55 to 60?F and daytime temperatures of 65 to 75 ?F. By the time they have developed 4 sets of leaves you can tranplant them outdoors. I hope this information is helpful. |
