I just bought a house and I want to fill it with plants. Since I missed most of the spring and summer planting season, can you recommend a variety of plants or flowers that will thrive indoors? |
Good light is the key to growing flowering plants indoors, so if you have a bright, or even sunny spot, you can successfully grow many flowering annuals inside. Plant Ageratum, Clarkia, Godetia, Lobelia, Nemesia, Phlox, Salvia, Lobelia, Geranium and Pansy. You might want to try growing things in containers out on a deck or patio, as well. If you purchase transplants at a local nursery, you'll have a summer full of flowers and veggies. Make sure containers have drainage holes in the bottoms, and fill them with potting soil rather than garden soil. Water daily, if needed. Plants growing in containers are watered more often than those in the ground. As a result, many important nutrients are regularly washed from the soil. Replenish these nutrients by fertilizing every three weeks with a diluted liquid fertilizer. Enjoy your new home and garden! |
