When is the fruit ready to pick? One of them fell off the vine, the outside was a pale yellow, the inside fruit is greenish in color but taste sweet. Should the inside fruit be orange? Is there a way to tell when the fruit is ripe?

Rocky Ford is an Heirloom cantaloupe from Rocky Ford Colorado that dates back to 1881. This melon has netted skin and sweet, pale-green, aromatic fruit. Melons usually weigh in at 2 - 3 pounds and are ready to harvest within 90 days. The fruit that fell off the vine was overripe. Ripe cantaloupes should slip easily from the stem The best way to check maturity of cantaloupes is to place your thumb beside the stem and gently apply pressure to the side. If the stem separates easily, the cantaloupe is ripe. Best wishes with your cantaloupes.

Rocky Ford cantaloupe has a peachy/orange flesh color. Not a pale-green fruit.
