If you really want to start all over, use Round Up. It is a contact vegetation killer and it is transported down to the roots of the plants. It does not travel in the soil and it breaks down quickly in the presence of sunlight and fresh air. When everything is dead you can pull or rake it out. There is a waiting period after using the product and before you can seed the area so be sure to follow the label directions. Best wishes with your new landscape!
