The Q&A Archives: help

Question: My garden is burning up. My cuccumbers are curving and sguash won't grow past the blooms. What am i doing wrong

Answer: Excessive heat can cause the problems you describe. If there is any way to provide some afternoon shade, I think your plants will perform better. Can you drive some stakes into the garden to support some shade cloth? If so, it's an inexpensive way to provide a little shade - just enough to keep your plants growing without too much stress. Use 3-4' tall stakes and attach the shade cloth onto the stakes. This will allow good air circulation beneath the cloth to help prevent diseases and to keep heat from building up. Good luck with your garden!
