The Q&A Archives: pecan trees

Question: When should I cut the small shoots coming out from the bottom. My trees are 7 yrs old, and what is the white stuff pecan growers put on the bark to prevent growth shoots.

Answer: You can pull or cut off the suckering growth whenever you see them emerging. The white stuff the growers paint on the trunks of pecan trees is simply diluted water based white paint. Good luck with your tree!
