There are 3 very noisey boys living behind us. All outdoor play toys are on the property line. My husband does'nt want a fence. We have arborvites, but they are still small. It's partly shady. What do you suggest to plant to afford us privacy?

A good plant to consider for privacy in the type of location you describe is privet, another might be barberry and a third suggestion is holly. These are large shrubs, winter hardy and tolerant of sun or and dry soil. Since the leaves and branches are dense and compact they should not only hide the play toys but also buffer the noise. Good luck with your new shrubs.
