We have a 48 sq ft area of yard that gets almost NO direct sun and tends to stay moist durring rainy weeks. We have tried planting Scotts Reseed Supreme, Heat Tolerant Blue Mix, and their Dense Shade Mix. We have added fertilized soil and watered a little each day. The seeds would sprout, grass would grow up to 4 |
It is really difficult to get grass to grow in shady areas, even with shade grass blends. The plants just wither away. I suspect that the turf in question is thin and when it dehydrates it simply disappears. There may be a fungal disease at work, too, but the only way to really tell is to take a sample of the affected turf, roots and all, to your local cooperative extension office for examination. Helpful folks there can confirm or eliminate fungal diseases and suggest remedies for the turf. Contact Shelby County Cooperative Extension, Agricenter International, 7777 Walnut Grove Rd.
