The Q&A Archives: Lilac Care

Question: A 5 foot deep purple Lilac bush is roughly transplanted and it looks like it has died. Then, one shoot sprouts and there is hope. It is promptly weedwhacked by accident. But another shoot is emerging and I'd like to know what I can do for penance to preserve and nurture this unfortunate shrub?

Answer: Lilacs are remarkably durable, as you've already learned. Other than staying away from it with the weed-whacker, provide it with lots of sunshine, water when dryish, and an occasional kiss in the morning. They do thrive on neglect.
