When is the best time to pick broccoli? This is the first season that I have grown a garden. The plants that I bought gave me a range of 40 to 70 days.

You can pick the center green flower bud cluster or "head" of broccoli as soon as it is big enough to suit you and then keep on harvesting until the yellow petals begin to show. This way you can extend your harvest season. Some varieties will make lots of side branches with more smaller bud clusters after the center head is cut. This can stretch your harvest season by several weeks. If you want to try this, try to cut off as few leaves as possible when you pick that center head so the plant will stay vigorous. Enjoy your crop!
