The Q&A Archives: amaryllis

Question: I have amaryllis that have been planted for about 4 or 5 yrs, This last spring some bloomed and some did not. I planted them with the blub about half above the ground, some are still like that and some of the blubs have become covered with soil. My question is should I dig them up and replant them with 1/2 of the blub above ground, and if so what time of year should I do that. Thanks for your help

Answer: I wouldn't move the ones that are performing well. As for the others, you can dig and replant them after the foliage dies down at the end of the summer. They will rest for a few months before flowering so while they are dormant is a good time to dig and replant them. Good luck with your amaryllis.
