The Q&A Archives: Sambac Jasmine

Question: I bought a Sambac Jasmine and I would like to know if this is really an evergreen, if it is winter hardy for out of doors in my state. Can I leave this plant in the ground in the winter or should it be brought indoors?

Answer: This is actually a tropical plant and must be brought indoors for the winter. It makes a good houseplant and stays green all year. Mine usually flowers periodically during the winter, too. Since it is a twining vine up to ten feet long, you might want to train it onto a small trellis or around a hoop form so that you can move it more easily when it is time to bring it inside. Enjoy the fragrance!
