The Q&A Archives: No fruit on Lemon tree

Question: My neighbor has a tree that is over 24 feet tall., It looks, feels and smells exactly like my lemon tree. It has never produced any fruit why?

Answer: It probably is a citrus tree of sorts, either grown from seed (these do not usually produce fruits) or it is a citrus rootstock that was allowed to grow. Some citrus trees are grafted onto rootstocks which are quite vigorous. If your neighbor planted a citrus tree and then allowed the rootstock to overtake the fruiting, grafted part of the tree, the result will be a citrus of sorts, but not a productive one.
