Pampas grass grows best in full sunshine, in average, well-draining soil. Most folks like to leave the browned grass intact throughout the winter months to provide interest to the winter landscape. If you'd like to go that route, simply leave the grass alone until the spring when you see new growth appearing and then cut out all the browned grass. Otherwise, you can cut the foliage back in the autumn. Pampas grass, once established, will grow happily without supplemental feeding. In fact, it may grow too quickly if fed, which will require digging and dividing to keep it under control.
