The Q&A Archives: Slugs

Question: I am having some insect problem so I had to go home depot for some answers. They had identify the insect. The insect was identify as slugs. They told me what to buy this stuff to use on the lawn. The product is called ortho bug-geta plus snail and slug killer. Can slugs damage lawns? Please respond back asap

Thank you

Answer: Slugs can hide in lawns but they usually don't feed on it. Instead they wait until nighttime and then go out and feed on your plants, returning to the lawn to hide during the day. There are several slug control products on the market. Ortho's Bug-geta will control the slugs. If you have pets or children who play on the lawn you might want to use a different product. There is an iron based slug control product called Sluggo. It is effective against snails and slugs but will not harm people, pets or wildlife. Best wishes with your landscape.
