Dwarf golden barberry is bred to have non-burning foliage so I can understand your disappointment. Once it becomes established it should recover and the growth it develops should be more tolerant of sunshine. Transplanting landscape trees and shrubs in the summertime when the weather is hot can be really stressful to them. We often suggest you shade them from hot afternoon sun for a week or two after planting so they can concentrate on re-establishing their root systems without having to lose their leaves due to the stress. If you can temporarily shade them from afternoon sun they will be able to recover more quickly. Water them deeply every 3-4 days rather than every other day. This schedule will allow the soil to dry out slightly between waterings which is important as roots need oxygen as well as moisture. I think that once the roots re-establish themselves the plants will adapt to their new locations and put out new growth. Good luck with your barberry plants.
