tomatoes in planter boxes leaves on bottom of plant are suddenly turning brown |
It is normal for tomato plants to lose their lower leaves. As the leaves age they turn yellow. You can simply pull them off the plant. As long as your plant is developing new growth at the top, losing the lower leaves should not be a concern. Tomato plants need lots of root room so if your planter box is shallow (less than 12-18 inches deep), it could be that your tomato plant needs a little more root room. If so, you might consider transplanting it into a larger pot. For standard sized tomato plants, a 5-gallon container is perfect. For smaller tomato plants such as patio or cherry, a planter box with 12" of depth is fine. Best wishes with your tomato plant! |
