Perennials are plants that grow for 2 or more years. Some are evergreen and some are deciduous. Evergreen plants keep their foliage and deciduous plants lose their leaves during the winter months. If your gold mound didn't make it through the winter, you might want to replace it with golden dewdrops (Duranta). This plant will remain evergreen in the winter months. Best wishes with your garden.
