I look at woodchucks as uninvited guests that never get the hint: you just keep ushering them to the door. I have to fence in my vegetable garden to keep them out, and they haven't yet feasted on my perennials. I hear that if you keep using smoke bombs in their tunnels to force them out and filling in their entrance and exit holes, they will eventually give up and move somewhere else. Another possibility is trapping them live in a Havahart trap and releasing them elsewhere, but some state and local ordinances prohibit this. A relatively new line of defense is predator urines, collected and bottled for use by gardeners. Fox urine is purported to repel woodchucks. It's available from Peaceful Valley Farm Supply, P.O. Box 2209, Grass Valley, CA 95945, (530) 272-4769. Good luck. |
