Some palm trees are cold hardy so without knowing which palms you are growing, it's hard to make a recommendation. Banana plants will freeze down to ground level in the winter. You simply cut everything off at ground level in the spring and new plants will emerge and grow all summer for you. You might want to check with your cooperative extension office or Master Gardener clinic for advice on the particular types of palms you are growing. With a photo they may be able to identify them and determine whether or not they are winter hardy in your region. Good luck with your plants.
