It is 7/8/09 in Kennesaw, GA. My side yard is mostly dirt because of 2 huge Bradford pear trees. I am looking to lay Bermuda sod or overseed with Bermuda. Which would be my better option and is now the right time of year to do either? |
Sod will provide an instant lawn; seeding will take a little more time for the lawn to fill in. You'll still need the same soil preparation whether you seed or sod so economics might factor into the project. Late summer/early fall will give your new turf a better chance to establish and grow. Mid-summer heat can be just a little much for sod or newly seeded grass to get off to a good start. Bermuda is somewhat shade tolerant, but if the shade is really deep, the grass may not grow well for you and you may need to overseed each spring. An option would be to grow a shade tolerant groundcover instead of bermuda. Best wishes with your landscape! |
