Dwarf trees are grafted onto a specific root stock that keeps the plants small. I'm wondering if your avocado tree was not properly grafted or the grafted part died and you're left with a standard sized tree. If this is the case, it will continue to grow into a full sized tree. Avocado trees usually set fruit when they are 4-5 years old. You may need to wait another year for fruit on your tree. Wish I had more suggestions to offer.
