The size of container really depends upon the size of your tree rose. It will look funny in an oversized pot and can topple over in a too small pot. I like to use containers for tree roses that are as wide as the canopy and about one third the height of the plant. So measure your tree. If it is 5' tall, use a container that's 24" tall and about the same width. Regular potting soil is perfect for your roses and since it will be in a container you'll want to apply a time release or slow release rose fertilizer. Pruning is up to you. Don't let it get top-heavy - just prune back anything excessively long during the growing season. The more you prune, the more flowering stems you rose will develop. Enjoy your rose tree!
