a magazine article mentioned that mixing vinegar and lemon juice kills weeds and the spread of new ones any truth to this?

Full strength vinegar or full strength lemon juice will kill weeds - and any other plant it touches. It is safe to use on sidewalks or driveways but I wouldn't use it on the lawn or in flower beds because if it splashes onto other plants it will kill them, too. If the weeds in question are in places where there are no other plants you can simply pour boiling water on them to kill them off. Be sure to wear shoes so hot water won't splash onto bare feet or legs!
