The Q&A Archives: hanging tomato

Question: My hanging tomato plant is not doing well. Some of the leaves are dying. I got some blooms but they are gone.

Answer: It's difficult to provide enough water to tomatoes in hanging baskets. They like moisture and baskets tend to dry out quickly so your plant may be showing signs of water stress. Check the container daily for water needs and try to maintain a consistent moisture level for the roots. If the weather is hot tomato plants won't set fruit. There's not much you can do to get those flowers to develop fruit other than to keep the plant healthy and wait for the temperature to drop a few degrees. Eventually your plant should set fruit. Best wishes with your tomato plant!
