Potted evergreens - Knowledgebase Question

we planted bamboo in a large pot. we were gone 2 mos [dec and jan] in the winter. when we returned first week of march, the bamboo was half dead. we like to have a potted plant near the front door. what wd u suggest pls? that does not require watering in the winter for 2 mos. except get whatever rain water. we wd prefer an evergreen. thank u for yr help. sue

Have you considered Nandina? Also called Heavenly Bamboo. It's not really a bamboo but the stems and leaves look similar to bamboo. These plants grow well in the Pacific Northwest and mine get by with only natural rainfall all year around. Hope this works for you.
