The Q&A Archives: drought

Question: Out of the following which one(s) will die in a drought: Chocolate Mint, Aloe Vera, Lemon Grass, Gerbera Daisy, Cilantro, Jalapeno Pepper, Zinnia, Rose, Fern, Spider Plant, Vinca, Caladium, Flax, and Poppies. Thanks!

Answer: Drought tolerance is a subjective term. The ability of a plant to go without water for an extended period of time really depends upon how well established and healthy it is going into the drought. With that said, Aloe, mint and poppies are the most drought tolerant, gerber daisies, caladium and cilantro the least. The rest fall somewhere in between.
